1) Name of the association: Pacific Islands Noni Association (PINA) 2) Purpose of the association: The association of Pacific Noni Processors is a non profit organisation. To install a body that represents the members (noni processors) and their products to third parties, other organizations and buyers of noni products. Disseminate information about markets, market trends, quality, products, Morinda Inc. to members. Create quality standards, such as for food hygiene, processing facilities. Create credibility in marketing and advertising, provide fair customer information. Point of reference for customer complaints, association president can arbitrate, or nominate a member to arbitrate. (In case of deadlock an independant arbitrator should be appointed, by mutual consent.) Design guidelines for customer service standards. Represent the association on trade shows (members should have their own stalls) Create public awareness of the association's standards and their members quality product standards. Organize services for the members, e.g. organic certification, cost reduction by cost sharing. 3) Membership Voluntary upon application to the President, board decides on membership, new applicants are introduced to all members, members with voting right may forward objections to the president who informs the board. Applicants must provide: Company name, directors, board members, (disclosure of interest) location of processing site, registered office, contact details (person, phone, fax, mobile, e-mail, web site) how long in business, operating license for food processing, size of company (no. of staff) Applicants agree to obey by the rules and standards of the association. (Membership applications should be voted on by secret ballot.) 4) Body Meetings once every three months to report on association's past year's, finances, elect next board, president, chairman. President nominated by all members, elected by members with voting rights, Chairman appointed by president Board nominated by members, elected by members with voting rights Members with voting rights are successful applicants that have paid their membership fee and have not been terminated. Members with no voting rights have not paid their membership fee, will be removed from the association's web site. 5) Fee annually FJD300.00 payable before 31 December of each year. Or part of it depending what time the member joins the association. T/T payments from out side Fiji must add FJ$10.00 in order to cover bank fees for such payments. 6) Public relations Website with information about members, contacts, products (not prices and details on products) any information that seems useful for the association. News letter to members (quarterly) Forum on the web site 7) Quality standards Product standards must meet internationally approved food standards. This must be certified by authorized laboratories who have qualified food technology staff. (This must be certified by authorised laboratories, *selected by the members*) Producers of organic noni products must be able to provide a valid certificate from an authorized certification body. 8) Product labelling There are different kinds of noni juice products. All have in common that the ingredients come from the Morinda citrifolia tree. Noni products that have no other ingredients than from the noni tree should be allowed to carry the label: PURE NONI or 100% PURE NONI... Other products that have additions of other materials (water, juices, preservatives, etc.) carry the label NONI .... WITH percentages of other ingredients. Some manufacturers make noni juice with noni leaves, roots, bark, flowers, this should be disclosed on the label, because it contributes to customer information which results in trust and reliability. Organic products must be certified by an authorized body, the certification must be valid. It is not sufficient to say, the raw material comes from wild growing trees and therefore it is organic. Any information given on the product label must be true. The association will issue a small label (size of a 20 cent coin) that designates a product from a member company. Members are allowed to print this label and use it on their products to underline the quality standard of their products. 9) Termination of membership By letter to the President Membership fee in arrears for more than 3 month Violating association's rules, e.g. sub standard quality Dishonesty: Pretending quality approved, but no proof Disqualifying other members' products in public, or to (potential) customers. 10) Exclusion of Members Existing members can (should, must) be excluded from membership if they do not obey by the rules set out earlier on regarding 'Quality Standards'.
